Title: Eye Change
Post by: Matt on February 14, 2006, 02:51:02 PM
So I've been using a new eye style for a few weeks now.  What do you guys think of the change?

At the start of the "Rose Glasses" storyline, right?
Well, to be quite frank, I liked the old eye style better. But you should be true to yourself, of course.

Eyebrows, on the other hand, are a definite improvement.

Now that I've got a larger base of comics to look at with the new style, I think I was more expressive with the old eyes.  It's taking me longer to master the newer style than I thought it would.  I'm still going to stick with it though. I'm stubborn like that and I think it'll work out well with more practice.

And yeah, so long as I remember that eyebrows exist, it probably won't be a disaster.

Good, and good luck with it. I didn't mean to be a downer. I always worry when cartoonists/comic artists enlarge eyes. Remember Stephen Jay Gould's remarks about Mickey.

Oh, it was a valid point.  Plus, concerns/criticism towards the negative are usually quite helpful, so I don't begrudge it (usually).  I'm sort of aware that the eyes end up too large half the time. It's one of those inner battles.  I think I only ever manage to make Steve's eyes as small as I want to make eveyone's.

Also, I had lost my bookmark to the bit about Mickey. Thanks for that.

As an experiment, you could try drawing Matt with lightly penciled-in glasses, and then erase the glasses when you're done. Maybe that would help you get the look you want.

I like that idea. Perhhaps I'll try it out tonight.

You can't see it, but I'm now doing my "I gave a useful idea to a webcomic artist" dance.

It's times like this where a webcamera would be useful. Or scary.

Or both.

Did you see Jon Arbuckle dancing in "Garfield Gets A Life"? Then no webcam is necessary.

If you didn't see it, lucky you.

How did it go?

By the way, "raccoon" has two c's.

Uhm. It went sort of well, I think.

You won't see the results for about a week though, thanks to the power of the buffer.

But this is no mere raccoon.  This is a racoon!  It's a hybrid animal.
...Yeah I'll get around to fixing that later.

According to Wikipedia, Racoon is a Dutch band. Which makes the comic even more amusing.

Eh. I'm feeling jovial tonight, since we're close to buying our first house (we = my wife and me).

Here's a clip from this upcomping Wednesday's comic:

The eyes are a bit smaller and I think it's better. Yes?

Yes, very nice. Perhaps you could consider updating your avatar accordingly, both here and over at Goats Central.

I probably will at some point. I'm waiting for the "right" image to pop up.  Which means none of the ones in the comics quite work with what I want in an avatar.
