I've got a new voting incentive up.  It's the original concept sketch I did for the Dee Dee cybernetic body in which Angela is currently living.  I never quite finished it (for instance, I haven't yet drawn on the pants I was intending to add), but I like it nonetheless.  Vote to see that here.

Fairly recently (roughly 1.5 months ago), DJ Coffman put up the first page of a Yirmumah story titled "Origins."  Normally, Yirmumah was largely filed with pop culture jokes, some of them timeless and some of them more short-term topical.  They were pretty funny on the whole, and there was a Llama. Life was good.

DJ largely changed formats with origins, opting to go with something a bit stark and more serious.  It's done all in black and white, and the contrasts are done pretty well.  The story is loosely modelled after his dad.  It involves a bible, some bikers, and some badassery.  You'll have to go read it to find out what all is involved.

The major depature from the daily funny pop culture strips, besides a lot of continuity is that DJ writes so that we genuinely care about the characters involved whom we should care about, and want to see those characters succeed.  We don't like the people we are meant not to like.  This might not seem like a big deal, but such a simple act of storytelling is often hard to accomplish.  Especially notable is that this character-attachment isn't at all present in the older gag-a-day strips.  It really shows how well he can write, being able to do both.

Today, the blog entry that DJ posted was very long.  Wall-of-Text++ long.  I read every word; it was that captivating.  He explained the importance of his father in his life and how it molded these Origins strips.  It gripped me.

This change in Yirmumah has been notable and awesome... and nobody seems to care.  I've been very surprised that I've seen nobody talking about it on the various webcomics journals that I read.  Here we have a great story, great writing, and change. Why isn't anybody talking about this?

One last thing before I go: My car's thermostat had apparrently gone bad and that was what caused the radiator to explode.  luckily, everything is covered under the warranty, which has 4000 miles left on it. Whoo! Talk about timing.

I knew something looked odd.
