So my number one artistic style criticism has been that my blobby character ears are distracting.  Apparenly people didn't like the way they connect to the neck, which I never quite understood, as I've seen other people use a similar drawing technique.

So anyway, while doodling this past weekend, I tried drawing the neck/ears a little differently.  It's still not a vast change, but I really really like how it looks now, so... any comments?

For the new ears, check out today's comic (24 Feb 2005) and then compare it to, say, the comic before it (or any other comic before it).  Tomorrow's comic is a little better for the ears over today's I think.

Yeah, the new look for the ears is better but I would have never noticed a difference unless attention was called to it.

You're also not that perceptive. :)

I like it better. The ears bugged me. Too big & floppy. It reminded me of Dumbo. I was waiting for the characters to start flying.  Er. Wait. Is that Dumbo that flies? I really need to watch Disney movies. :(

I was going to draw no attentione to them and just wait for someone to post about it.  I could imagine the response, "Whoa, when did the ears change?" And I could be all coy. I could say, "Why, they've always been that way."  But then heads would explode, and I'd get stuck cleaning up the mess. That's me, the ol' head janitor.

So do tell, who griped about the ears? Inquiring minds want to know, because inquiring minds are curious about who stares at the ears instead of reading the comics.

Hehe.  Mostly people from other sites when critiquing. I couldn't get any worthwhile critiques from the buzzComix forums because the moderator immediately pointed out how she couldn't get through mroe than the first few series because the ears kept bothering her.  Everyone else after her chimed in that since she mentioned it, they couldn't either.

A few other people at various sites mentioned it, but at least they gave some advice and such on other things, as well as tried to tell what they liked, etc.

Eh, I liked the ears how they were.  Of course, the current ears I like just as much.  In other words I never would have noticed if you hadn't had told me.

Yes.  And we'll never have to be alone ever again! :P

Usually, I would notice little stuff like this, but Matt keeps changing/improving his style every few months.  So comic-to-comic little things keep changing.  I mean, look how far he's come from this utter shite (not really Matt ;)) that we used to think was brilliant.
